HOUSE, SENATE OK 2004 DEDUCTION FOR TSUNAMI DONATIONS MADE IN JANUARY 2005

On January 6, 2005 the House and Senate pass by unanimous consent a measure (H.R. 241) entitling those who make monetary donations to
the victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami in January 2005 to
deduct those contributions on their 2004 tax returns.
Finance ranking Democrat Baucus proposed the measure with
support from Chairman Grassley; a House version was
co-sponsored by Ways and Means Chairman Thomas and ranking
Democrat Rangel. "The passage of this legislation will be a
great benefit to those in need," Baucus says.

President Bush is expected to sign into law.
